Lab diamonds are by far the most profitable items in the jewelry stores that sell them. That’s why they push them so hard and go out of their way to convince you they are just like real diamonds. In fact, lab diamonds are infinitely more profitable for a jewelry store than real, natural diamonds.
We’re not talking 50% or 100% profit or even 200%. Try 1000+%. That’s right. We see lab diamonds featured online at big local stores and can compare them to the price sheets we get from wholesalers begging us to carry them.
Two recent examples: A 2.08-carat Oval E-VS1/Ex lab diamond is for sale down the street for $3,300. I can buy a 2.30 carat E-VS1/Ex from a wholesaler for $312. That’s a 1,057% profit. They also have a 3.12-carat Radiant D-VS1/Ex lab diamond for $7,670. I can buy a 3.81-carat Radiant D-VS1/Ex from the same lab diamond wholesaler for $253.58. That’s a 3,025% profit on a product that loses nearly all value the second you leave the store.

Lab diamonds are “closer” to the real thing than CZs and other synthetics, but that’s about it. They’re just close.
